The format for this book features a singular, present tense point-of-view for the main chapters and has past tense, mixed point-of-views for the chapter breaks. Already, I have received some feedback that the chapter breaks are more interesting in the early part of the book than the full-length chapter.
The reason why I decided to offer chapter breaks is because of what function they serve in the book — they are memories. The past. Things that Sophie either doesn’t remember or happened “around” her. While I hope it is becoming clearer and clearer, these chapter breaks (combined with Thunk) allude to the serious damage the Alchemists had inflicted on Sophie’s mind through external magical means.
Much of this novel is to peel away the layers of this complex world, almost as if you’re seeing a spot cleared on a dirty window. There have been some challenges with this so far, but much of that polish will come through the editing process.
I have finished another chapter for you to read. I hope you enjoy reading Argentum as much as I enjoy writing it.
To pick up where you left off, you’ll want to start reading at the Chapter 7 Break | The Seventh Piece.
